لَستَyou are not مِنthan عاشِقٍa lover أَضَلَّmore astray سَبيلاًin one's path
لَستَ مِن عاشِقٍ أَضَلَّ سَبيلاً
فَسَقىand so watered دَمعُهُhis tears الهُطولَpouring طَلولاruined camps
فَسَقى دَمعُهُ الهُطولَ طَلولا
You are no more astray along the way than a lover,
Whose pouring tears thus watered ruined camps.

فَجَعَلتُ الصِلاءَ فيها الشُمولا
The night grew cold when a north wind blew,
So in that wind I made wine my warming fire,

In a crescent, as though it were a sand-snake
That had found a noonday resting place on high ground.

It spent the night a bracelet on darkness's wrist,
And a diadem upon the crown of deep night's head.
