If words contradict actions, then they

By my life, mere dust that neither benefits nor avails.

Are, by my life, naught - useless, futile.

فلا مرحباً بالخل يُبدي ليَ الهوى

فلا مرحباً بالخل يُبدي ليَ الهوى

وأفعالهُ تُومي إلى غيرِ ما يُبدي

وأفعالهُ تُومي إلى غيرِ ما يُبدي

So no welcome to the friend who shows me love,

So no welcome to him whose love is proclaimed

While his deeds point to something other than what he shows.

Yet his deeds belie all his words have conveyed.
