زِنجِيَّةً تَفتِلُ خُلخالا
The wine jar has been tapped—rise, then, and look:
The wine jar has been tapped; so rise and look
a Zanj woman, twining an anklet.
At a black African woman twisting an anklet.

Give me a drink of her; drink, and be merry;
And pour her for me; drink, and be merry.
and trail your skirts along the ground.
And trail your skirts along the ground.

إِنَّ وَراءَ المَرءِ أَهوالا
Live in delight while you can, and take your pleasure:
Enjoy yourself as much as you can, and take your pleasure.
for ahead of every mortal, terrors lie.
For terrors lie ahead of every person.
