لَيسَ حَدُّ الحُسامِ أَكفى وَأَغنى

لَيسَ حَدُّ الحُسامِ أَكفى وَأَغنى

مِن أَخٍ ذي كِفايَةٍ وَغِناءِ

مِن أَخٍ ذي كِفايَةٍ وَغِناءِ

The sword's edge is no more effective or helpful

A brother of competence and wealth,

than a brother endowed with ability and usefulness.

Is better guard than any sword or shield,

وَأَخو المَرءِ عِصمَةٌ في بَلاءِ

وَأَخو المَرءِ عِصمَةٌ في بَلاءِ

يَعتَريهِ وَزينَةٌ في الرَخاءِ

يَعتَريهِ وَزينَةٌ في الرَخاءِ

And a man's brother is a safeguard in adversity

In hardship he gives refuge, in joy a crown,

that befalls him, and an adornment in prosperity.

No blade or armor comforts like a sibling found.
