قَدindeed قَرُبَhas drawn near الأَمرُthe matter بَعدَafter بُعدِهits remoteness
وَأَسعَفَand granted favor الإِلفُthe beloved بَعدَafter صَدِّهhis turning away
The matter has drawn near after being far away,
The matter has come near after its distance
And the beloved has shown favor after turning away.
And intimacy has helped after its estrangement
وَبَعدَand after بُؤسٍmisery وَضيقِand straitness of عَيشٍlife
صِرتَyou have come إِلىto خَفضِهِits ease وَرَغدِهand its plenty
And after misery and a straitened life,
And after misery and straitened living
You have come to a life of ease and plenty.
You have come to lowering it and its abundance
لَكِنَّهُbut it مَلبَسٌa garment مُعارٌborrowed
لابُدَّthere is no escape مِنfrom نَزعِهِtaking it off وَرَدِّهand returning it
Yet it is a borrowed garment:
But it is a borrowed garment
It must be taken off and returned.
It must be taken off and returned
وَهَلand is …? يُسَرُّgladdened الفَتىthe young man بِحَظٍّby good fortune
وُجودُهُits existence عِلَّةٌa cause لِفَقدِهof its loss
And can a young man rejoice in good fortune
And can the young man be delighted with a share
Whose existence is the cause of its loss?
Whose existence is a cause for its loss
