لا مونِسٌ آنَسُ مِن دَفتَرٍ

لا مونِسٌ آنَسُ مِن دَفتَرٍ

وَواعِظٌ أَوعَظُ مِن قَبرِ

وَواعِظٌ أَوعَظُ مِن قَبرِ

No companion is more congenial than a notebook,

No companion is more companionable than a book

Nor any admonisher more effective than a grave.

No preacher preaches better than the grave

فَلا تُرِد غَيرَهُما صاحِباً

فَلا تُرِد غَيرَهُما صاحِباً

تَفوزُ في المَوقِفِ وَالحَشرِ

تَفوزُ في المَوقِفِ وَالحَشرِ

So seek no companion other than these two;

So seek no other friends

You will triumph at the standing for judgment and the gathering.
