لا مونِسٌ آنَسُ مِن دَفتَرٍ

وَواعِظٌ أَوعَظُ مِن قَبرِ

No companion is more companionable than a book,

No companion is more congenial than a book,

And no admonisher more admonishing than a grave.

Nor any preacher more admonitory than a grave.

فَلا تُرِد غَيرَهُما صاحِباً

تَفوزُ في المَوقِفِ وَالحَشرِ

تَفوزُ في المَوقِفِ وَالحَشرِ

So seek no companion other than those two,

And you will triumph at the Standing and the Gathering.
