أَحدَقَ لَيمونٌ بِأُترُجَّةٍ
كَأَنجُمٍlike stars تُحدِقُencircle بِالبَدرِaround the full moon
كَأَنجُمٍ تُحدِقُ بِالبَدرِ
Lemons have ringed a citron,
Lemons have encircled a citron,
like stars encircling the full moon—
Like stars encircling the full moon.
مَخروطَةُtapered الأَجسادِthe bodies فيin فِضَّةٍsilver
مَخروطَةُ الأَجسادِ في فِضَّةٍ
مُلَبَّساتٍclothed قُمُصَshirts التِبرِunworked gold
مُلَبَّساتٍ قُمُصَ التِبرِ
their bodies finely shaped, set in silver,
Their tapered bodies in silver,
clad in shirts of pure gold.
Clad in shirts of gold.
قَدindeed شَدَّfastened مِنfrom هاماتِهاtheir crowns زِرُّهاtheir button
قَد شَدَّ مِن هاماتِها زِرُّها
ياO عَجَباwonder مِنat ذَلِكَthat الزِرِّthe button
يا عَجَبا مِن ذَلِكَ الزِرِّ
At their crowns, their button is fastened;
Their button has fastened them at their crowns—
oh, what a wonder, that button!
Oh, what a marvel that button is!
إِشرَبdrink عَلَيهاin their presence وَتَمَتَّعand delight بِهاin them
إِشرَب عَلَيها وَتَمَتَّع بِها
فَإِنَّهاfor indeed they مِنamong تُحَفِtreasures الدَهرِtime
فَإِنَّها مِن تُحَفِ الدَهرِ
Drink with this display and delight in it,
Drink in their presence, and delight in them,
for it is one of Time’s rare treasures.
For they are among time’s treasures.
