Indeed, poverty brings no shame upon a young man,

but the greatest shame lies in sullied honor.

My life's length lies not in how long its span extends,

but in how long joy and ease endure.

And the dead are only those whose memory has died,

and who are dead to giving aid through loans and gifts.

The passing of time delights me, yet whenever

some of time's days pass, a part of me passes.
