أهزُّكُمُI stir you بأشعاريwith my poems وأَنتُمwhile you are
أهزُّكُمُ بأشعاري وأَنتُم
جَمادٌinert matter لاnot تهزُّكُمُstir you السِياطُthe whips
جَمادٌ لا تهزُّكُمُ السِياطُ
I stir you with my poems, yet you are
I stir you with my poems, though you are
lifeless matter that even whips cannot stir.
inert matter that whips do not stir.
تَغَيَّرَchanged حُسنُthe beauty وجهِكُمُof your face لشعريbecause of my poetry
تَغَيَّرَ حُسنُ وجهِكُمُ لشعري
كأنّas though الشعرَpoetry عندَكُمُin your eyes ضُراطُfarting
كأنّ الشعرَ عندَكُمُ ضُراطُ
The beauty of your faces changes at my verse,
The beauty of your faces changed at my poetry,
as though poetry, to you, were mere farting.
as though poetry, to you, were farting.
