قُلتُI said لِلكَلبِto the dog حينَwhen مَرَّpassed بِيَby me اِخسَأbegone
قُلتُ لِلكَلبِ حينَ مَرَّ بِيَ اِخسَأ
فَكَأَنّيso, as though I كَوَيتُI seared قَلبَكَyour heart كَيّاa searing
فَكَأَنّي كَوَيتُ قَلبَكَ كَيّا
I said to the dog as it passed me, “Begone!”
I said to the dog as it passed me, “Begone!”
And it was as though I had cauterized your heart.
So it was as though I had seared your heart.
أَتَرىdo you think أَنَّنيthat I أَعُدُّكَI consider you كَلباًa dog
أَتَرى أَنَّني أَعُدُّكَ كَلباً
أَنتَyou عِنديin my eyes إِذاwhen نَبَحتَyou bark الثُرَيّاthe Pleiades
أَنتَ عِندي إِذا نَبَحتَ الثُرَيّا
Do you suppose that I count you a dog?
Do you think that I consider you a dog?
In my eyes, if you bark, you are the Pleiades.
To me, when you bark, you are the Pleiades.
