أُواصِلُ الهَمَّ في ضيقٍ وَفي سَعَةٍ

أُواصِلُ الهَمَّ في ضيقٍ وَفي سَعَةٍ

كَأَنَّ بَيني وَبَينَ الهَمِّ أَرحاما

كَأَنَّ بَيني وَبَينَ الهَمِّ أَرحاما

I keep company with sorrow, in hardship and in prosperity,

As though there were ties of kinship between me and sorrow.

إِنَّ اِمرَأً عَظُمَت في الناسِ هِمَّتُهُ

إِنَّ اِمرَأً عَظُمَت في الناسِ هِمَّتُهُ

رَأى السُرورَ جَوىً وَالوَفرَ إِعداما

رَأى السُرورَ جَوىً وَالوَفرَ إِعداما

Indeed, a man whose ambition has grown great among men

Sees joy as heartache and abundance as destitution.
