دارَيتُكُم حيناً فَأَبطَرتُكُم

دارَيتُكُم حيناً فَأَبطَرتُكُم

وَلَيسَ لِلعَيرِ سِوى الضَربِ

وَلَيسَ لِلعَيرِ سِوى الضَربِ

I humored you for a time, and thus emboldened your insolence;

I humored you for a time, and so made you insolent;

I dwelled among you for a while, but soon grew weary,

but nothing avails a donkey except a beating.

And for the donkey there is nothing but beating.

For a camel bears only blows and more blows.
