بُليتُ بِهِجرانٍ وَفَقرٍ وَفاقَةٍ

بُليتُ بِهِجرانٍ وَفَقرٍ وَفاقَةٍ

وَكَثرَةِ حاجاتٍ وَثِقلِ دُيونِ

وَكَثرَةِ حاجاتٍ وَثِقلِ دُيونِ

I have been afflicted by desertion, poverty, and destitution,

I have been afflicted with abandonment, poverty, and destitution,

by countless needs and the burden of debts.

and a multitude of needs and the burden of debts;

وَأَعظَمُها أَنَّ الزَمانَ يَسومُني

وَأَعظَمُها أَنَّ الزَمانَ يَسومُني

وُقوفاً عَلى أَبوابِ مَن هُوَ دوني

وُقوفاً عَلى أَبوابِ مَن هُوَ دوني

And worst of them all is that Fate makes me endure

and worst of all is that time compels me

standing at the doors of those beneath me.

to stand at the doors of one who is beneath me.
