يَوَدُّ أَنَّ شَيبَهُ

يَوَدُّ أَنَّ شَيبَهُ

إِذ جاءَ لا يَنصَرِفُ

إِذ جاءَ لا يَنصَرِفُ

He wishes that his gray hair,

He wishes when his hoary hair arrives

once it has come, would never depart;

It would not go away

يَخلُفُ رَيعانُ الصِبا

يَخلُفُ رَيعانُ الصِبا

وَالمَوتُ مِنهُ خَلِفُ

وَالمَوتُ مِنهُ خَلِفُ

it succeeds the bloom of youth,

The prime of youth succeeds it

and death is its successor.

And death follows after
