جَواهِرُjewels عُشبٍgrass وَنورٍand blossoms نَظيمٍstrung together
جَواهِرُ عُشبٍ وَنورٍ نَظيمٍ
وَأَفرادُand solitary patches ظِلٍّshade وَقَطرُand drops نَثيرِscattered
وَأَفرادُ ظِلٍّ وَقَطرُ نَثيرِ
Grass-jewels and blossoms strung like pearls;
Jewels of grass and blossoms strung together,
And solitary patches of shade, and scattered drops.
And solitary patches of shade and scattered drops;
فَمِنso from بَينِamong صُفرٍyellow ones وَحُمرٍand red ones وَخُضرٍand green ones
فَمِن بَينِ صُفرٍ وَحُمرٍ وَخُضرٍ
عَلىon القُضبِthe stems غيدٍsupple وَزورٍand crooked وَصورِand leaning
عَلى القُضبِ غيدٍ وَزورٍ وَصورِ
Some blossoms are yellow, some red, and some green;
Among them are yellow, red, and green,
Upon the boughs, lissome maidens—some leaning, some neck-inclined;
On stems supple, crooked, and leaning;
وَلَعسٍand dusky ones تُناسِبُmatch لُعسَdusky الشِفاهِthe lips
وَلَعسٍ تُناسِبُ لُعسَ الشِفاهِ
وَبيضٍand white ones تُعارِضُrival بيضَwhite الثُغورِthe teeth
وَبيضٍ تُعارِضُ بيضَ الثُغورِ
And dusky blossoms matching the dusky hue of lips;
And dusky blooms matching dusky lips,
And white blossoms rivaling the white of smiling teeth;
And white blooms rivaling white teeth;
نَواظِرُeyes مِنfrom بَينِamong يَقظىwakeful وَوَسنىand drowsy
نَواظِرُ مِن بَينِ يَقظى وَوَسنى
وَنُجلٍand wide-eyed وَخُزرٍand narrow-eyed وَحولٍand cross-eyed وَحورِand black-pupilled with brilliant whites
وَنُجلٍ وَخُزرٍ وَحولٍ وَحورِ
Gazing eyes, some wakeful and some drowsy;
Eyes—some wakeful, some drowsy—
Some wide-eyed, some sidelong-eyed, some cross-eyed, some darkly lustrous.
And some wide, some narrow, some crossed, some with black pupils and brilliant whites.
