تصبر فما المكروهُ ضربة لازبٍ

ستنكشفُ البلوى ويتسعُ الحرج

ستنكشفُ البلوى ويتسعُ الحرج

Be patient, for adversity is no unalterable decree.

Be patient, for hardship's blow no permanent mark will leave

Affliction will lift, and constriction will give way to ease.

Adversity shall pass, and straitened circumstances relief receive

ولا تشكونَّ اليومَ قبلَ انقضائِه

ولا تشكونَّ اليومَ قبلَ انقضائِه

فمن ساعةٍ منه إلى ساعة فرح

فمن ساعةٍ منه إلى ساعة فرح

And do not lament the day before its end,

Complain not of today before its passing you perceive

For from one hour of it to the next comes joy.

For in an hour, gladness may from sadness interweave
