وَقُلتُ عَساها إِن مَرَضتُ تَعودُني

وَقُلتُ عَساها إِن مَرَضتُ تَعودُني

فَأَحبَبتُ لَو أَنّي غَدَوتُ مَريضا

فَأَحبَبتُ لَو أَنّي غَدَوتُ مَريضا

And I said, “Perhaps she would visit me if I fell ill.”

And I said, "Perhaps she would visit me if I fell ill."

So I longed to become ill myself.

So I wished that I might become ill.

وَزِدتُ اِتِّساعاً في المَكارِمِ وَالعُلا

وَزِدتُ اِتِّساعاً في المَكارِمِ وَالعُلا

لِيُصبِحَ جاهي عِندَهُنَّ عَريضا

لِيُصبِحَ جاهي عِندَهُنَّ عَريضا

And I grew ever more expansive in noble deeds and lofty honor,

And I grew in generosity and eminence,

so that my standing in their eyes might grow great.

So that my standing in their eyes might grow vast.
