وَكُؤوسٍand cups إِذاwhen دَجاgrows dark اللَيلُthe night دارَتgo round
وَكُؤوسٍ إِذا دَجا اللَيلُ دارَت
تَحتَbeneath سَقفٍa ceiling مُرَصَّعٍstudded بِاللُجَينِwith silver
تَحتَ سَقفٍ مُرَصَّعٍ بِاللُجَينِ
And cups that, when night grows dark, go round
And cups that, when night falls, circle
Beneath a ceiling studded with silver.
Below a ceiling inlaid with pearls
وَكَأَنَّand as though الهِلالَthe crescent moon مِرآةُa mirror تِبرٍuncoined gold
وَكَأَنَّ الهِلالَ مِرآةُ تِبرٍ
يَنجَليis unveiled كُلَّevery لَيلَةٍnight إِصبَعَينِtwo fingerbreadths
يَنجَلي كُلَّ لَيلَةٍ إِصبَعَينِ
And the crescent is like a mirror of gold,
As though the crescent were a mirror of antimony
Unveiled two fingerbreadths more each night.
That shows two fingers every night
