ياO هذهyou (woman) كمhow long يكونwill continue اللومblame والفَنَدُand fault-finding
لاdo not تعذليreproach رجلاًa man أثوابُهُhis clothes قِدَدُin tatters
O woman, how long will blame and fault-finding last?
O you, how much blame and rebuke there is,
Do not reproach a man whose clothes are in tatters.
Do not blame a man whose clothes are rags,
إنif أُمسِI am منفرداًalone فالبحرthen the sea منفردٌalone
والبدرُand the full moon مُنفردٌalone والسيفand the sword منفردُalone
If I am alone, the sea too is alone;
If yesterday he was alone, so is the sea alone,
And the full moon is alone, and the sword is alone.
And the moon alone, and the sword alone,
إنif كانhas صَرفthe changing fortunes زمانٍof time عابmarred هيئتهhis appearance
فبينyet between طمريهhis two threadbare garments منهof him ضيغمٌa fierce lion أسدُa lion
If time's changing fortunes have marred his appearance,
If the turning of time has marred his form,
Yet within his two threadbare garments is a lion—a fierce lion.
Between its ruins lies a lion's roar.
