خدّي لدَمعٍ فيه مُرفَضِّ

خدّي لدَمعٍ فيه مُرفَضِّ

وخدُّهُ لِلَّثمِ والعَضِّ

وخدُّهُ لِلَّثمِ والعَضِّ

My cheek is for tears streaming down it,

One cheek rejecting tears that flow

and his cheek for kissing and biting.

The other welcoming a kiss or bite

بعضي على بعضي يبكي دماً

بعضي على بعضي يبكي دماً

وبعضُه يزهى على بعض

وبعضُه يزهى على بعض

One part of me weeps blood over another,

Part of me weeps blood for another part

and one part of him vaunts itself over another.

While one part takes pride over another

ما كملت حتى بدا حسنه

ما كملت حتى بدا حسنه

ولا استتمت زينة الأرض

ولا استتمت زينة الأرض

Until his beauty appeared, it was not complete,

Its beauty was incomplete

nor was the earth's adornment perfected.

The adornment of the earth imperfect

قد كدتُ أن أقضي من هجره

قد كدتُ أن أقضي من هجره

وحُقَّ للمهجور أن يقضي

وحُقَّ للمهجور أن يقضي

I have almost died from his forsaking me,

I almost died from his abandonment

and well may the forsaken die.

It's the fate of the abandoned to perish
