When we came to Taqī al-Dīn, there appeared to us
When we came to Taqi al-Din, there appeared to us
a peerless caller to God, standing alone with no refuge;
A lone caller to God, with no refuge.

upon his countenance was the radiance borne by those who accompanied
Upon his face, from the marks of those who accompanied
the best of creation—a light before which the moon pales.
The best of creation, is a light brighter than the moon.

A learned master, from whom his age robed itself in ink;
A scholar whose era clothed itself in ornate robes from him;
a sea that cast forth pearls from its waves.
An ocean from whose waves pearls tumbled forth.

Ibn Taymiyya arose in defense of our sacred law,
Ibn Taymiyyah rose in defense of our religious law,
as Taym’s lord, Abū Bakr, stood when Muḍar rebelled.
As did the chief of Taym when Mudar rebelled.
وَأَظهَرَand he made manifest الحَقَّthe truth إِذwhen آثارهits traces اندَرَسَتhad been effaced
وَأَخمَدَand he extinguished الشرَevil إِذwhen طارَتflew لَهُof it شَرَرsparks
He made the truth manifest when its traces had been effaced,
And he made the truth manifest when its traces had been effaced,
and quenched evil when its sparks flew high.
And he extinguished evil when its sparks flew.

أَنتَyou الإمامُthe imam الَّذيwho قَدindeed كانَwas يُنتَظَرُbeing awaited
We used to tell of a learned master who would come—and behold:
We used to speak of a scholar yet to come—so behold,
you are the imam who had long been awaited.
You are the imam who had indeed been awaited.
