إِنَّ عِلماً تَعبتُ فيهِ زَماني

إِنَّ عِلماً تَعبتُ فيهِ زَماني

باذِلاً فيهِ طارِفي وَتِلادي

باذِلاً فيهِ طارِفي وَتِلادي

Indeed, knowledge for which I have toiled all my life,

Indeed, knowledge for which I have toiled all my life,

Knowledge wherein I exhausted my life

spending upon it all my acquired and inherited wealth,

expending on it my acquired and inherited wealth,

And expended my prime and formative years -

لَجَديرٌ بِأن يَكونَ عَزيزاً

لَجَديرٌ بِأن يَكونَ عَزيزاً

وَمَصوناً إِلا عَلى الأَجوادِ

وَمَصوناً إِلا عَلى الأَجوادِ

is surely worthy of being held dear

surely deserves to be prized

It merits being treasured and guarded

and safeguarded from all but the noble.

and withheld from all but the generous.

From all save the noble and generous peers.
