I wished to kiss the beloved, so he came to me,

And kissed me in my sleep—twice in all.

Ah, how sweet that kiss was to me, and how cool,

Upon a burning scheme that melts with longing.

And I do hope to kiss, while awake,

A mouth where wine is mixed with musk and honey,

So a thirsty man may drink his fill of wine,

And behold a smile like pearls in a necklace.
