نَظَرت إِلى هَذا الوجودِ فَلَم أَجِد

نَظَرت إِلى هَذا الوجودِ فَلَم أَجِد

بِهِ غَيرَ كَذّابٍ مُراءٍ مُخادِعِ

بِهِ غَيرَ كَذّابٍ مُراءٍ مُخادِعِ

I looked upon this existence and did not find

I looked upon this existence and found

within it anyone but a liar, a hypocrite, a deceiver;

None but deceivers, hypocrites, and tricksters

وَمَسخَرةٍ نالَ المَعالي بِسُخفِهِ

وَمَسخَرةٍ نالَ المَعالي بِسُخفِهِ

قَد اِعتادَ صَكاً في القَفا وَالأَخادِعِ

قَد اِعتادَ صَكاً في القَفا وَالأَخادِعِ

and a buffoon who attained high station through his foolishness,

And a buffoon who attained heights through his idiocy

already accustomed to slaps on the nape and sides of the neck;

Having grown accustomed to striking his own nape and temples

وَجَمّاعةٍ للمالِ قَد باعَ دِينَهُ

وَجَمّاعةٍ للمالِ قَد باعَ دِينَهُ

بِنَزرٍ مِن الدُنيا كَثير المَطامِعِ

بِنَزرٍ مِن الدُنيا كَثير المَطامِعِ

and a hoarder of money who has sold his faith

And a people who sold their faith

for a pittance of this world, his greedy desires many;

For a pittance of this world, exceedingly avaricious

وَذي عَرشَةٍ مُستأذِب مُتنَمِّسٍ

وَذي عَرشَةٍ مُستأذِب مُتنَمِّسٍ

جَهولٍ تَعاطى الكِبر في زِيِّ خاشِعِ

جَهولٍ تَعاطى الكِبر في زِيِّ خاشِعِ

and a bushy-bearded man, wolfish and feigning piety,

And a pretentious, affected, ignorant man

an ignoramus affecting pride in the garb of a humble worshipper.

Who assumed arrogance in the guise of humility

وَأَمّا الَّذي يَقفُو شَريعَةَ أَحمَدٍ

وَأَمّا الَّذي يَقفُو شَريعَةَ أَحمَدٍ

فَأَقلِل بِهِ مِن صادِقِ الدينِ صادِعِ

فَأَقلِل بِهِ مِن صادِقِ الدينِ صادِعِ

And as for one who follows Ahmad's sacred law,

And as for those few who follow Ahmed's Law

how rare is he—sincere in faith and proclaiming it openly!

Sincere, vocal Muslims are very rare indeed
