تَطيبُ حَياتي أَو تَلَذُّ بِها نَفسِي
Can it be, after Nudayra has come to rest in the grave,
Will my life be pleasant or my soul delighted
that my life grows sweet, or my soul delights in it?
After the passing of Nudhair in Ramses?

dropsy and fever, then consumption and a cough,
Love and fever, then coughing, sneezing
and discharge—who can withstand five ailments?
And nosebleeds - who can endure five afflictions?

And she had repeatedly seen a vision: that she
She had seen in her dreams repeatedly that she
would leave this world for the holy presence.
Would depart this world for the Divine Presence

So her heart grew calm, and she felt reassured when she saw
So her body weakened and she was content with what she saw
gardens of Paradise; she had despaired of life.
Of gardens, though life was full of despair
فَماso she did not ضجِرَتgrow impatient يَوماًever وَلاnor اِشتَكَتcomplain of الضَنىwasting sickness

She never grew impatient, nor complained of wasting sickness,
Never complaining or grumbling of distress
nor spoke of the despair she endured.
Nor mentioning what agony she bore of despair

She passed away on Monday after we had seen
the sun's horn appeared to us, yellow as wars-dye.
The horn of gazelle dawn like the wild ox

The people prayed over her, praising
with her to a dark tomb, desolate in its obscurity.
In a dark and dreary tomb of veils

Her deeds keep her company in her grave, deeds that
The deeds that preceded her provide comfort
went before her—what great companionship they are, then!
Greater than any human company

She went to a generous and pure Lord
free from every fault and every defilement.
Absolved of any blemish or impurity

Women have not born one similar to her

How can stars compare to the radiant sun?

The bloom of her cheeks' grace never ceased
obedient to the Merciful, in the morning as in the evening.
Sacrificing night and day for the Merciful

She studied in Egypt and Hejaz and dwelt
in Mecca, giving generously in dinars, not a mere fils.
In Mecca, spending gold, not mere coins

She visited the Messenger of God, best of those who walked
in Tayba, and settled in its timeworn dwellings,
The lanes of Taibah and studied its quarters

She possessed stunning beauty and eloquence
thus brighter than the sun, and more eloquent than Quss.
Clearer than the sun, more articulate than a storyteller

For no garden, drenched in dew, its flowers unfolding,
The garden never opened blossoms more beautiful

And Hilal's son is not worth a clipping
Of Nudhair's triumph
