A person cannot do without a form

Of beauty that his eye beholds,

    And witty, uncommon conversation

Whose description clings to his heart,

And the fragrance of musk or ambergris

Which his nose delights in smelling,

And a slender-waisted, soft body to touch,

Like the full moon when half the month has passed,

And a taste whose saliva is wine

In a smiling mouth whose sipping intoxicates the wine.

    Five pleasures: whoever attains them

    Is happy, his refinement complete.

And whoever has long been granted enjoyment of them

Cares not if his death should come.
