تَبَسَّمَhe smiled إِذwhen تَبَسَّمَhe smiled عَنrevealing أَقاحِchrysanthemums
وَأَسفَرَand he shone حينَwhen أَسفَرَhe shone عَنrevealing صَباحِa dawn
When he smiled, his smile revealed chrysanthemums.
He smiled as he smiled, his cheek revealing dawn,
And when he shone, he revealed a dawn.
And dawn broke as he revealed the morning's glow,
وَأَتحَفَنيand he gifted me بِكَأسٍwith a cup مِنof رُضابٍsweet saliva
وَكَأسٍand a cup مِنof جَنىfruit خَدٍّa cheek وَراحِand wine
And he offered me a cup of sweet saliva,
Offering me a cup of pleasure, a draft
And a cup of a cheek's fruit and wine.
Of cheek and ease. And so, from his smile’s radiance at morn
فَمِنso from لَألاءِthe radiance of غُرَّتِهِhis brow صَباحيmy dawn
وَمِنand from صَهباءِthe tawny wine of ريقَتِهِhis saliva اِصطِباحيmy morning draught
So my dawn comes from the radiance of his brow,
My day begins, and from the blowing of his breath, revival.
And my morning draught from the tawny wine of his saliva.
Do not be quick to free my soul,
فَلاso do not تَعجَلhasten إِلىto تَسريحِreleasing روحيmy soul
فَمَوتيfor my death فيكَfor you أَيسَرُeasier مِنthan سَراحيmy release
So do not hasten to release my soul;
For in you, my death is easier than my release.
For dying for you is easier than being set free.
