The rose is in his cheeks,
The rose in its gardens
and magic in his eyes.
And the magic in its eyes
وَإِنand though عَصاهُdisobeys him لِسانيmy tongue

And though my tongue disobeys him,
Though my tongue may disobey
yet my heart is at his hands’ command.
My heart is under its sway
ياظالِماًO cruel one لَستُI do not أَدريknow
أَدعوI pray لَهُfor him أَمor عَلَيهِagainst him
O cruel one, I do not know
O unjust one, I know not
whether to pray for him or against him.
If for you I pray or curse
أَناI إِلىto اللَهِGod مِمّاfrom what
دُفِعتُI was driven مِنكَby you إِلَيهِto it
I turn to God for refuge from what
To God I leave judgment
you have driven me to.
For all I've suffered from you
