غِنىrichness النَفسِof the soul لِمَنfor whoever يَعقِunderstands (continued)
غِنى النَفسِ لِمَن يَعقِ
لُcompletes 'understands' خَيرٌbetter مِنthan غِنىwealth المالِof money
لُ خَيرٌ مِن غِنى المالِ
Richness of soul, for one who understands,
is better than material wealth.
وَفَضلُand the worth الناسِof people فيin الأَنفُthe souls (continued)
وَفَضلُ الناسِ في الأَنفُ
سِcompletes 'the souls' لَيسَis not الفَضلُworth فيin الحالِoutward circumstances
سِ لَيسَ الفَضلُ في الحالِ
And people's worth lies in their souls;
worth does not lie in outward circumstances.
