    O traveler, while the cloak of bashfulness

    Still dwells, as ever, upon his cheek—

    أَخافُ عَلَيكَ جِراحَ المُقَل

    By your life, draw the veil back over your face;

    I fear for you the wounds of gazing eyes.

    Your beauty does not deserve to be exposed,

    Nor does your face deserve to be made commonplace.

    I have no fear for you from the turns of time,

    Just as you have no fear that I shall ever weary.
