O people, is there for me

A protector from what I have suffered?

أَصابَ غِرَّةَ قَلبي

هَذا الغَزالُ الغَريرُ

هَذا الغَزالُ الغَريرُ

My heart was caught unawares

By this guileless gazelle.

فَعُمرُ لَيلي طَويلٌ

فَعُمرُ لَيلي طَويلٌ

وَعُمرُ نَومي قَصيرُ

وَعُمرُ نَومي قَصيرُ

So the span of my night is long,

And the span of my sleep is short.

أَسَرتَ مِنّي فُؤادي

أَسَرتَ مِنّي فُؤادي

يَفديكَ ذاكَ الأَسيرُ

يَفديكَ ذاكَ الأَسيرُ

You have taken my heart captive;

That captive would ransom you.
