أَياO قَومَناour people لاتَقطَعواdo not cut off اليَدَthe hand بِاليَدِwith the hand
أَيا قَومَنا لاتَقطَعوا اليَدَ بِاليَدِ
O our people, do not kindle war between us.
O my people, do not start a war between us
O our people, do not cut off one hand with the other.
O my people, do not sever hand from hand

عَلى المَرءِ مِن وَقعِ الحُسامِ المُهَنَّدِ
A kinsman's enmity is more bitter
Enmity of a kinsman is more painful
to a man than the stroke of a keen Indian-steel sword.
To a man than the blow of sharpened swords
فَياso, O لَيتَwould that دانيclose الرَحمِkinship مِنّاamong us وَمِنكُمُand among you
فَيا لَيتَ داني الرَحمِ مِنّا وَمِنكُمُ
إِذاif لَمnot يُقَرِّبhe brings closer بَينَناbetween us لَمnot يُبَعِّدِhe drives apart
إِذا لَم يُقَرِّب بَينَنا لَم يُبَعِّدِ
So would that the close kinsman among us and among you,
If the womb does not bring us close, neither will it separate us
if he does not bring us together, would not drive us apart.
If it does not unite us, it will not divide us
