الآنَ حينَ عَرَفتُ رُش

الآنَ حينَ عَرَفتُ رُش

دي وَاِغتَدَيتُ عَلى حَذَر

دي وَاِغتَدَيتُ عَلى حَذَر

Now, when I have come to know my sound judg-

Now that I have known my own folly

-ment and have grown wary,

And guarded myself with care

وَنَهَيتُ نَفسي فَاِنتَهَت

وَنَهَيتُ نَفسي فَاِنتَهَت

وَزَجَرتُ قَلبي فَاِنزَجَر

وَزَجَرتُ قَلبي فَاِنزَجَر

and I forbade my soul, so it desisted,

And restrained my soul, so it was restrained

and I rebuked my heart, so it was checked;

And curbed my heart, so it was curbed

وَلَقَد أَقامَ عَلى الضَلا

وَلَقَد أَقامَ عَلى الضَلا

لَةِ ثُمَّ أَذعَنَ وَاِستَمَر

لَةِ ثُمَّ أَذعَنَ وَاِستَمَر

and indeed it had persisted in misguid-

Long did it persist in error

-ance, then yielded and continued so.

Then yielded and persevered

هَيهاتَ لَستُ أَبا فِرا

هَيهاتَ لَستُ أَبا فِرا

سٍ إِن وَفَيتُ لِمَن غَدَر

سٍ إِن وَفَيتُ لِمَن غَدَر

Far be it! I am not Abu Fira-

Alas! I am no coward

-s if I keep faith with one who broke faith.

If I keep faith with the betrayer
