My spear-shaft is sturdy, as you two have known it;
My steadfastness to what you have promised is crucifixion
and my timber is sturdy, as you two know.
And my loyalty to what you know is crucifixion
صَبورٌpatient عَلىthrough طَيِّfolding الزَمانِtime وَنَشرِهِand its unfolding
وَإِنand even if ظَهَرَتappear لِلدَهرِof time فِيَّin me نُدوبُscars
I am patient through time's folding and unfolding,
I am patient with the vicissitudes of time and its unfolding
even if time's scars appear upon me.
And if the scars of time become visible in me
وَإِنَّand indeed فَتىًa youth لَمhas not يَكسِرِbroken الأَسرُcaptivity قَلبَهُhis heart

And indeed, a youth whose heart captivity has not broken,
Surely a man whose heart is not broken by captivity
and whose resolve plunging into death has not broken, is truly noble.
And whose spirit plunges into the abyss is noble
