أُرَوِّحُ القَلبَ بِبَعضِ الهَزلِ

أُرَوِّحُ القَلبَ بِبَعضِ الهَزلِ

تَجاهُلاً مِنّي بِغَيرِ جَهلِ

تَجاهُلاً مِنّي بِغَيرِ جَهلِ

I refresh the heart with a little jest,

I cheer the heart with a little jest

feigning ignorance, though I am not ignorant.

Pretending, though not in ignorance,

أَمزَحُ فيهِ مَزحَ أَهلِ الفَضلِ

أَمزَحُ فيهِ مَزحَ أَهلِ الفَضلِ

وَالمَزحُ أَحياناً جَلاءُ العَقلِ

وَالمَزحُ أَحياناً جَلاءُ العَقلِ

In it, I jest as people of virtue do,

Joking as learned people do

and jesting sometimes polishes the mind.

For jesting sometimes clears the mind
