كَيفَhow أَرجوI hope الصَلاحَgood order مِنfrom أَمرِthe affairs of قَومٍa people
ضَيَّعواthey neglected الحَزمَprudence فيهِin it أَيُّutter ضَياعِneglect
How can I hope for good order in the affairs of a people
who have utterly neglected prudence in them?
فَمُطاعُfor the one obeyed المَقالِin speech غَيرُnot سَديدٍsound in judgment
وَسَديدُand the one sound المَقالِin speech غَيرُnot مُطاعِobeyed
For the one whose words are obeyed lacks sound judgment,
while the one whose words are sound is not obeyed.
