المَجدُ بِالرَقَّةِ مَجموعُ

المَجدُ بِالرَقَّةِ مَجموعُ

وَالفَضلُ مَرئِيٌّ وَمَسموعُ

وَالفَضلُ مَرئِيٌّ وَمَسموعُ

Glory is gathered in Raqqa,

Glory is coupled with gentleness

And excellence is seen and heard.

And merit is seen and heard

إِنَّ بِها كُلَّ عَميمِ النَدى

إِنَّ بِها كُلَّ عَميمِ النَدى

يَداهُ لِلجودِ يَنابيعُ

يَداهُ لِلجودِ يَنابيعُ

Indeed, there dwells every man of boundless generosity,

Through it, every generous person's dew

Whose two hands are wellsprings of bounty.

His hands for giving are springs

وَكُلَّ مَبذولِ القِرى بَيتُهُ

وَكُلَّ مَبذولِ القِرى بَيتُهُ

عَلى عُلا العَلياءِ مَرفوعُ

عَلى عُلا العَلياءِ مَرفوعُ

And every lavish host, whose house

And every house of village generosity

Is raised upon the heights of eminence.

Is raised to the highest of highs

لَكِن أَتاني نَبَأٌ رائِعٌ

لَكِن أَتاني نَبَأٌ رائِعٌ

يَضيقُ عَنهُ السَمعُ وَالرَوعُ

يَضيقُ عَنهُ السَمعُ وَالرَوعُ

But alarming news has reached me,

But news came to me, astonishing

Too much for ear and heart to bear:

The hearing and awe of it is constricted

أَنَّ بَني عَمّي وَحاشاهُمُ

أَنَّ بَني عَمّي وَحاشاهُمُ

شَعبُهُم بِالخُلفِ مَصدوعُ

شَعبُهُم بِالخُلفِ مَصدوعُ

That my cousins—far be it from them—

That my paternal cousins, far from them

Have their unity riven by discord.

Their clan with disunity is split

ما لِعَصا قَومِيَ قَد شَقَّها

ما لِعَصا قَومِيَ قَد شَقَّها

تَفارُطٌ مِنهُم وَتَضيِيعُ

تَفارُطٌ مِنهُم وَتَضيِيعُ

What ails my people's staff, now split

What is with the staff of my people that it cracked

By their own laxity and neglect?

Recklessness from them and loss

بَني أَبي فَرَّقَ ما بَينَكُمُ

بَني أَبي فَرَّقَ ما بَينَكُمُ

واشٍ عَلى الشَحناءِ مَطبوعُ

واشٍ عَلى الشَحناءِ مَطبوعُ

Sons of my father, your bonds were sundered

Sons of my father, what was between you dispersed

By a tale-bearer naturally bent on hatred.

Rancor upon resentment imprinted

عودوا إِلى أَحسَنِ ماكُنتُمُ

عودوا إِلى أَحسَنِ ماكُنتُمُ

فَأَنتُمُ الغُرُّ المَرابيعُ

فَأَنتُمُ الغُرُّ المَرابيعُ

Return to the best of what you were,

Return to the best of what you were

For you are the illustrious chieftains.

For you are the noble cubic rock

لا يَكمُلُ السُؤدُدُ في ماجِدٍ

لا يَكمُلُ السُؤدُدُ في ماجِدٍ

لَيسَ لَهُ عَودٌ وَمَرجوعُ

لَيسَ لَهُ عَودٌ وَمَرجوعُ

No noble man's greatness is complete

Glory is not complete for the glorious

Unless he can turn back and return.

Who has no resolution or return

أَنَبذِلُ الوُدَّ لِأَعدائِنا

أَنَبذِلُ الوُدَّ لِأَعدائِنا

وَهوَ عَنِ الإِخَوَةِ مَمنوعُ

وَهوَ عَنِ الإِخَوَةِ مَمنوعُ

Do we offer affection to our enemies,

Shall I offer affection to our enemies?

While it is withheld from our brothers?

While from brothers it's forbidden

أَو نَصِلُ الأَبعَدَ مِن قَومِنا

أَو نَصِلُ الأَبعَدَ مِن قَومِنا

وَالنَسَبُ الأَقرَبُ مَقطوعُ

وَالنَسَبُ الأَقرَبُ مَقطوعُ

Or keep ties with our more distant kin,

Or join those furthest from our people?

While the nearest bond of kinship is severed?

While the closest kinship is cut off

لايَثبُتُ العِزُّ عَلى فُرقَةٍ

لايَثبُتُ العِزُّ عَلى فُرقَةٍ

غَيرُكَ بِالباطِلِ مَخدوعُ

غَيرُكَ بِالباطِلِ مَخدوعُ

Honor cannot endure amid division;

Glory does not settle on a faction

Another, not you, is deceived by falsehood.

Deceived by falsehood are the rest
