وَما تَعَرَّضَ لي يَأسٌ سَلَوتُ بِهِ

وَما تَعَرَّضَ لي يَأسٌ سَلَوتُ بِهِ

إِلّا تَجَدَّدَ لي في إِثرِهِ طَمَعُ

إِلّا تَجَدَّدَ لي في إِثرِهِ طَمَعُ

And no despair has come upon me through which I found solace,

Despair has never overcome me

but hope has been renewed for me in its wake.

Without renewed hope swiftly on its heels.

وَلا تَناهَيتُ في شَكوى مَحَبَّتِهِ

وَلا تَناهَيتُ في شَكوى مَحَبَّتِهِ

إِلّا وَأَكثَرَ مِمّا قُلتُ ما أَدعُ

إِلّا وَأَكثَرَ مِمّا قُلتُ ما أَدعُ

Nor have I reached the limit in lamenting my love for him,

Nor have I ceased to complain of his love

but what I leave unsaid exceeds what I have said.

Except to voice even more than I proclaimed.
