وَوَاللَهِand by God ماnot أَضمَرتُI harbored فيin الحُبِّlove سَلوَةًforgetting the beloved
وَوَاللَهِand by God ماnot حَدَّثتِI spoke to نَفسِيَmyself بِالصَبرِof patience
And by God, I have harbored no thought of forgetting in love.
By God, I never harbored any sweetness in love
And by God, I have not spoken to myself of patience.
And by God, I never told myself of patience
فَإِنَّكَfor indeed you فيin عَينيmy eye لَأَبهىindeed more splendid مِنَthan الغِنىwealth
وَإِنَّكَand indeed you فيin قَلبيmy heart لَأَحلىindeed sweeter مِنَthan النَصرِvictory
For in my eyes you are indeed more splendid than wealth.
For you are in my eyes more splendid than riches
And in my heart you are indeed sweeter than victory.
And you are in my heart sweeter than triumph
فَياso O حَكَميmy judge المَأمولَlooked to with hope جُرتَyou acted unjustly مَعَwith الهَوىpassion
وَياand O ثِقَتيmy trusted one المَأمونَtrustworthy خُنتَyou betrayed مَعَwith الدَهرِtime
So O my judge, in whom I placed hope, you wronged me along with passion.
Oh my hoped-for wisdom, you sided with passion
And O my trusted one, in whom I felt secure, you betrayed me along with time.
Oh my trusted ally, you betrayed me over time
