لَيسَis not جوداًgenerosity عَطِيَّةٌa gift بِسُؤالِupon request
قَدmay يَهُزُّstir السُؤالُthe request غَيرَsomeone other than الجَوادِthe generous person
A gift given upon request is not generosity;
a request may stir even one who is not generous.
إِنَّماonly الجودُgenerosity ماwhat أَتاكَcomes to you اِبتِداءًunasked
لَمdid not تَذُقyou taste فيهِin it ذِلَّةَthe humiliation of التَردادِrepeated asking
Generosity is only what comes to you unasked,
without your tasting the humiliation of repeated appeals.
