    Will you not turn, that we may greet you?

    We are none other than those who love you.

    We were heedless, until there awakened us

    a fragrance we breathed in from you.

    إن كنتِ خائفةً فنحميك

    O white gazelle, poised to flee,

    if you are afraid, we shall protect you;

    or if you are angry with some people,

    speak, and we shall grow angry—or appease you.

    ما أنتِ إلا بين أهليك

    Do not bolt in alarm or anger;

    you are here among your own.

    For the trailing hems of your skirts sweep over

    eyes and hearts that would ransom themselves for you.

    The world’s delight and all its bliss

    are nothing but your smile for me, and my love for you.

    To me, you are all creation—so no wonder

    all its beauty has gathered in you.
