يوماًone day بموطِنِكَin your homeland العزيزِcherished الباهيsplendid
Why not take pride, young man, and boast
Should you not take pride, young man, and boast
one day of your cherished, splendid homeland,
One day of your precious, glorious homeland?
وتكونُand be فيهِin it سيِّداًa master لاnot خادماًa servant
يَرعىherds وللغرباءِand for foreigners درُّmilk شياهِsheep
and be a master there, not a servant
And be in it a master, not a servant,
who tends the sheep while their milk goes to foreigners?
Who shepherds, while strangers enjoy its bounty.

O you who come after me, when you attain your hopes
O you who will come after me, if you attain your wish
and enjoy wealth and prestige as a free man,
And live free in riches and glory,

remember a young man who made himself suffer for your sake
Remember a young man who sacrificed himself for you
and refused a life of ease under humiliation.
And refused a life of humiliation and comfort.

My homeland—the foreigner coveted it when he saw
My homeland, which the foreigner coveted when he saw
the discord and folly in my nation.
Among my people so much sedition and foolishness.

Her passions killed her nobility; and had she
Their passions killed their dignity; if only
been discerning, sound judgment would have been the greatest deterrent.
They had been prudent, patience would have been greater.

وهيwhile she الخذولُthe faithless one لهمto them سلامُpeace اللهGod
So upon those who spent themselves in love of her—
So upon those who perished loving it
though she forsakes them—be the peace of God.
While it was neglectful of them, may God's peace be.
