تطايرَflew forth منfrom قلبيmy heart الشرارُthe sparks ومنand from جَفنيmy eyelid
لأنيbecause I رأيتُI saw الجسمَthe body للنفسfor the soul كالسجنِlike a prison
Sparks flew from my heart and from my eyelid,
Sparks flew from my heart and from my eyelids
for I saw the body as a prison for the soul.
Because I saw that the body is like a prison for the soul

My soul longs for Lebanon and wishes
My soul yearns for Lebanon and craves
its people a life of plenty, justice, and security.
For its people, a life of fertility, justice and safety

فللحبso to love ماwhat ألقىI endure منof الشَّوقِthe longing والحزنand sorrow
There are people there to whom I have grown attached;
There I have loved ones
so to love belong the longing and sorrow I endure
To whom love has brought longing and sorrow

over one of them; when the east wind blows,
When the zephyr blows toward one of them
I see a fragment of my heart that has fallen from me.
I see a piece of my heart falling away from me
