قدindeed أرخَتِshe let hang الشَّالَthe shawl علىover الخدِّthe cheek

She has let the shawl fall over her cheek,
You draped your shawl over your cheek
So the bough of her figure grew green from it.
So its greenness put grass to shame
والخدُّand the cheek كالوردِlike the rose علىon غُصنهits branch
والشَّالُand the shawl كالأوراقِlike the leaves للوردِof the rose
And her cheek is like a rose upon its branch,
Your cheek is like a rose on its stem
And the shawl is like the rose's leaves.
And your shawl like leaves round the rose
والوردُand the rose بالطلِّwith dew لهُfor it نضرةٌfreshness
والخصرُand the waist محتاجin need إلىof العقدbinding
And dew gives the rose its freshness,
The rose needs rain to flourish
And her waist is in need of binding.
And your waist needs a belt

This one's knot is an embrace from my hand,
This knot is a handful from my hands
And that one's water is tears of longing.
And those tears are passion's rain
