أبديreveal هلالَكِyour crescent moon منfrom غمامِthe cloud of البُرقُعِthe veil
ماذاwhat عليكِwould it cost you إذاif ابتَسمتِyou smiled لموجَعِat one in pain
Reveal your crescent moon from the cloud of the veil.
Show me your crescent moon from behind the clouds
What would it cost you if you smiled at one in pain?
Why would you care if I smiled despite my agony?
هذاthis الفؤادُheart لطولِbecause of the length of صدِّكِyour rejection مظلمٌdark
ولئنand if indeed يذرَّdawns عليهِupon it نورُكِyour light يَسطَعshines
This heart is dark from your prolonged rejection.
This heart is dark from your constant rejection
And if your light dawns upon it, it will shine.
Yet if your light rains on it, it will shine
فهبيso give لهُto it مماof what وُهبتyou were given منof السَّنىradiance

فالنجمُfor the star يؤنِسُناcomforts us بحسنِwith the beauty of المطلعthe rising
So give it some of the radiance you were given,
So grant it some of the joy you've been granted
For the star comforts us with the beauty of its rising.
For a star comforts us when it rises beautifully
لاdo not تَبخَليbe sparing بمواهبِwith the gifts of اللهِGod التيthat
جَعَلتكِmade you أبدَعَthe most wondrous صورةٍimage للمُبدِعof the Creator
Do not be sparing with the gifts of God that
Do not be stingy with God’s gifts to you
Made you the Creator's most wondrous image.
That made you the most wondrous of creators
إنif كنتِyou are عادلةًjust أتيتُI come بحجتيwith my argument
أوor كنتِyou are ظالمةًunjust أتيتُI come بمدمعيwith my tearful eye
If you are just, I come with my argument;
If you are just, I've come with my argument
Or, if you are unjust, I come with my tearful eye.
If you are unjust, I've come with my tears
فلعلَّso perhaps عدلاًjustice فيin الهوىlove أوor رحمةًmercy
لمتيَّمٍfor one enslaved by love متظلِّمٍseeking redress مُتشفِّعseeking intercession
So perhaps there is justice in love, or mercy,
Maybe justice or mercy for a love-struck
For one enslaved by love, seeking redress and intercession.
Complainer pleading and hoping for favor
أشكوI complain إلىto اللهِGod الذيwho هوHe سائلٌwill ask
ماذاwhat فعلتِyou have done بقلبهِto his heart المتصدّعshattered
I complain to God, who will ask:
I complain to God who is the questioner
"What have you done to his shattered heart?"
What have you done to his fractured heart?
فلربماfor perhaps قُبِلتwill be accepted شفاعةُthe intercession of عاشقٍa lover

For perhaps a lover's intercession will be accepted
Perhaps a lover's intercession will be accepted
One day, while your beauty fails to intercede with Him.
One day despite your beauty not interceding
هذاthis حِماكِyour sanctuary بأدمعيwith my tears رصّعتُهُI have studded it

This is your sanctuary; I have studded it with my tears.
I have adorned this protection with my tears
So adorn the palm of supplication with a tear.
With a teardrop, pleading and adornment is enough
واللهِby God ماnot السامورُthe diamond أثمنَmore precious فيin يَديmy hand
منهاthan it فأجريهاso let it flow ولوand even if بتودُّعat ease
By God, a diamond in my hand is not more precious
By God, the necklace is no dearer in my hand
Than it—so let it flow, even at your ease.
Than it, so take it, even as a farewell
