Oh, how dear is a homeland that holds my ancestral heritage!

If asked who would give his life for it, I would be the one.

In it are my loved ones’ treasures and their graves.

And shall I not repel an aggressor from those treasures?

This soil is sacred for the mortal remains within it,

And for its plants; through it I keep faith with my ancestors.

Indeed, I breathe in its scent, seeking a blessing.

And its clear water heals one who is sick and thirsty.

O Roman, do not be unjust.

For God’s sake, leave me my homeland and my country.

Your far-off land is yours, and this land is mine.

How long, then, will you assail me as a raider and destroyer?

God grants me justice and grants my nation justice.

And He has indeed favored its struggle and mine.
