أياO ذاتَpossessor of المكارمِnoble virtues والمعاليand lofty honors
أيا ذاتَ المكارمِ والمعالي
تكسَّرتِwere shattered الصوارمُthe sharp swords والعواليand the long spears
تكسَّرتِ الصوارمُ والعوالي
O you of noble virtues and lofty honors,
Sharp swords and long spears were shattered.
لقومكِbefore your people ذلَّwas humbled قيصرُCaesar ثمthen كِسرىChosroes
لقومكِ ذلَّ قيصرُ ثم كِسرى
وذلَّواand they were humbled للعبيدِbefore slaves وللمواليand before clients
وذلَّوا للعبيدِ وللموالي
Caesar was humbled before your people, then Chosroes;
And they were humbled before slaves and clients.
تعاظمتِgrew mighty الخلافةُthe caliphate ماas long as حَماهاprotected it
تعاظمتِ الخلافةُ ما حَماها
ذوُوpossessors of الأنسابِnoble lineages منamong عربِArabs الرمالthe sands
ذوُو الأنسابِ من عربِ الرمال
The caliphate grew mighty as long as it was protected
By men of noble lineage among the Arabs of the sands.
ولماand when أصبحَbecame الدخلاءُthe outsiders جنداًsoldiers
ولما أصبحَ الدخلاءُ جنداً
هَوىfell عرشُthe throne العروبةِArabhood والجلالand majesty
هَوى عرشُ العروبةِ والجلال
And when outsiders became soldiers,
The throne of Arabhood and majesty fell.
