O star, whose nearness the heart desires,

your radiance is a promise that unites lovers.

Are you rising among the clouds, as though you were

a secluded maiden whose veils fall away?

I see my night in the garden, sorrowful like me,

lamenting and weeping while eyes lie asleep.

Look toward me; I am surely gazing toward you.

Oh, how lovely your radiance and your abodes!

For in the blue dome your light shines,

and my light gleams upon the face of the earth.

The heart yearns toward you in sorrow’s darkness,

and tearful eyelids long for the sight of you.

For how often have lovers at their nighttime gatherings been cheered

by a radiance shining over all creation!

Look down upon their ruined dwellings and their graves,

and keep watch over them, that what is entrusted may be preserved.

Oh, would that my soul dwelt in your radiance,

for a dark hue from the earth has frightened it.

And it is only a luminous being that has tumbled

into darkness, and covetous desires have enslaved it.

Yet, in remembrance, it traces its origin

to the highest assembly, and its yearnings grow strong.
