O our day in the forest of Cascatinha,

Who can wrest you for me from the depths of our past?

When you sank before the wings of darkness,

We were absorbed in the pleasures of love.

So you stole from us two sighs and a kiss,

And left us embracing in the shade.

You bade us farewell with yellowing rays

That had yellowed my cheek and brow.

How swiftly your minutes passed, those that

    Were realities unfolding, and certainty.

O mountains of Tijuca, a greeting to you,

Bearing the tears of distant loved ones.

This greeting is an everlasting cry

    Resounding through that valley.

Daughter of bliss, with the breeze grant us

In this hell, a greeting that revives us.

In your clear water I see myself at twenty.

When I saw you after nine months,

Love returned, and I remembered Albertina.

What perfumed the valley and had lain buried.

    أُعطيكِ من قلبي الذي تُعطينا

    And today I returned to you after parting from her;

I give you from my heart what you give us.

Will you recount the story of our passion,

When I spent the night mingling eyes with eyes?

So I say: this love taught me piety,

As though it were Plato's verses.

So take the fragrance, and give me color.

And do not stretch your right hand toward the flowers.
